Food Security Specialist

Perform a variety of outreach and administrative functions in support of innovative food access practices (i.e.: WIC to 5 retention campaign, food insecurity awareness and screening). The Food Security Specialist will assist in overseeing marketing and outreach efforts of public health nutrition program services (e.g., SNAP, WIC, Summer Food Service Program) for individuals, families, and community groups within Adams County. This position oversees training and education of community and medical providers on food access and programming in the area. The Food Security Specialist will assist in development of co-location efforts, healthy food retail and coordination of farmer’s markets and gardens while aligning efforts with community partners.

 

Requirements You’ll Need:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in public health, health promotion, food and nutrition, dietetics, or a related field. Master’s Preferred.

  • A minimum of two years of related work experience.

  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office tools including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.

  • Possession of a valid driver's license and dependable transportation.

  • Skills in graphic design programs such as Adobe InDesign preferred.

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) skills preferred.

 

Knowledge of:

  • Marketing strategy planning, including target audience identification, message development and media strategy.

  • Federal Nutrition Programs including WIC program, SNAP, Summer Food Service Program, and other community resources for the food insecure.

  • Community outreach and engagement strategies, including techniques and best practices related to developing community partnerships.

  • Social determinants of health.

  • Inter-related professional services and resources in the Tri-County Health Department and community for the implementation of programs.

 

Ability to:

  • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing to provide instruction and information to individuals and groups and provide information to a variety of public and private agencies including, but not limited to, private businesses, health clinics, community-based organizations, non-profit organizations, and other city, county and state departments and agencies.

  • Utilize appropriate methods for interacting effectively and professionally with persons from diverse culture, socioeconomic, education, racial, ethnic and professional backgrounds.

  • Maintain productivity standards and practice effective time management and prioritization of tasks, as well as manage resources in a cost-effective manner.

 

The salary range for this position is $51,000 - $64,000
